The verdict: is the Google Play Pass worth your money?
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
It is a delicate question to answer. First, you have to think about what a subscription entails. Technically, purchasing a subscription is a business decision. It has to make monetary sense, whether through direct discounts, time savings, or convenience.
The truth is, human beings tend to be creatures of habit. Many of us stick to the same apps once we find our favorites. Many do very well using only free apps. Even though we pay a lot of money for some of these apps, it can often be a one-time payment. Of course, Google Play Pass wouldn’t be a good investment if you identify with what we’ve just described.

We cannot deny that there is a healthy market for Google Play Pass, however. Especially for tech geeks and adventurers who often read the latest tech content on Android Authority. If you find yourself downloading multiple games per month, paying lots of in-app purchases per week, and regularly trying new apps, you might be spending well over $ 4.99 per month and probably well over $ 29.99. per year. In such a case, Google Play Pass may be a no-brainer.
However, try to see how far this subscription will take you. Remember that Google Play Pass includes around 950 apps and games. It’s nothing when you put things in perspective, because there is almost 2.8 million apps available on the Google Play Store. Most of the apps you want may not even be available.
We recommend that you check the Google Play Pass library before making a decision. To do this, go to Google Play Store> Profile Image> Play Pass> Explorer. See how many of these apps or games you would benefit from. Lots of apps cost over $ 4.99, which means you break even with a month’s payment with just one download. Some of them may have a bunch of in-app purchases that you’re likely to purchase, which would increase the savings even further.
You can always try out Google Play Pass. Currently, Google offers a one-month free trial for new users. You can cancel anytime before the end of the trial period and not be charged a single penny. It’s a simple way to find out if you’ll actually take advantage of what Google Play Pass has to offer.

Are there any alternatives?
As it stands, Google Play Pass has no real competition in the Android ecosystem, as it is offered by the Google Play Store, the âofficialâ Android app store. That said, there are some great alternatives out there, even if they don’t fall into the same category.
Xbox Game Pass, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and NVIDIA GeForce Now are the first options that come to mind. These all focus on high-end console-quality games and are priced accordingly. None of them will cost $ 4.99 per month and their libraries are more limited right now. Not to mention that they don’t offer any form of productivity services, just games.
Apple users also Apple Arcade. Again, this is only for Apple devices, so there is no need to even think about the option if you are an Android user. Like the other streaming services mentioned above, Apple Arcade is all about games, so no productivity or utility apps. Google Play Pass offers the best of both worlds, and no one else is following in its footsteps yet.
