UNL Hosts Farm Budget Calculator Training in Sydney
Lincoln, Neb. — The Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska Lincoln has scheduled a training workshop in Sidney for its new online agricultural budgeting tool from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 7 at the Cheyenne County Community Center, 627 Toledo St. .
The Farm Budget Calculator (ABC) is a free budgeting and decision-making tool designed to help agricultural producers determine their cost of production and forecast monetary and economic returns for various farming or ranching ventures.
“Knowing the cost of producing our farm businesses is even more critical now, with greater investment due to higher input and operating costs,” said Glennis McClure, extension educator and farm management analyst. and ranches at the Center for Agricultural Profitability. “Estimating your cost of production can help you make important management decisions now and throughout the production and marketing year.”
McClure, who works closely with ABC Tool and Academic Product Budgets, will facilitate the workshop. She will explore the features of the program and show how to get started. A hands-on session will provide users with the opportunity to use the program to create their own business budgets. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop, but mobile lab computers will be available as needed.
McClure will also explain how to download and use university culture budgets as a guide; how to create custom harvest budgets for owned and leased farms; how to capture field operations and material inputs and determine costs per field; how to generate business reports that include cash costs, economic costs and anticipated returns; the use of analytics features, including the risk module; and more.
The workshop is free, but registration is required one day before the workshop at https://cap.unl.edu/abc or by calling 308-254-4455.
