How do I calculate my Admission Point Score (APS)?

The calculation of an Admissions Score (APS) is based on a candidate passing one of the SIX 20 credit recognized subjects using the seven-point Senior National Certificate pass scale. Life orientation is a 10 credit subject, but is EXCLUDED when calculating the APS. When calculating your APS, all recognized NSC subjects (including subjects on the list of non-designated subjects, e.g. CAT, tourism, hotel studies and civil technology, electrical and mechanical, etc.), except for life orientation, are included.

What documents must accompany my application file?

Please ensure that you meet the minimum admission requirements before completing your online application form.
– Upload a copy of your RSA ID or, in the case of foreign applicants, passport
– If you are currently in Grade 12, please upload a copy of your Grade 11 Final Report.
– If you have already completed Year 12 and taken a “gap year”, please upload a copy of your Higher National Certificate or Independent Examination Board Certificate.

What are the academic results taken into account for admission?

Conditional admission to the University of Pretoria is granted on the basis of
on the results of the final mark of 11th grade (promotion mark). Please note that final Grade 12 results remain the determining factor for admission; also note that meeting the minimum requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission to a program or field of study.


If you have not completed Grade 11 in South Africa, please attach Grade 12 mid-year results. If Grade 12 has been completed or is being repeated, please attach a certified copy of the Grade 12 Final Certificate. No other results can be taken into consideration. Also include a copy of your ID.
