SAN JUAN, Texas – The PSJA Early College High School Calculator team received a gold medal and was named the UIL 6A State Calculator Champion after competing in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State University Competition held from 6 to May 7, 2022 at the University of Texas at Austin. .

Additionally, Sophomore Kevin Lopez, who attends the PSJA Collegiate High School program but competes with his PSJA Early College High School zoned campus, was named the UIL State Calculator Individual Champion.

The PSJA ECHS Math team was led by Senior Alma Carrillo, Kevin Lopez, Jonathan Garcia and Andres Flores. The students are under the guidance of mathematics teachers Alvaro Leal and Oscar Santos.

Most recently, the team was also named the State Calculator Champion after competing in the Texas Mathematics and Science Coach’s Association State Competition (TMSCA) held on March 19, 2022.

At PSJA ISD, all students can be part of highly competitive and rigorous advanced academic programs such as UIL, Robotics, Mock Trial, National Scripps Spelling Bee, and Advanced Placement, to name a few.
