Is there a calculator app for Apple iPad?

(Pocket-lint) – Apple has long had a curious blind spot when it comes to a certain kind of widely used app for its hugely popular range of iPad tablets.

There is no official calculator on its iPads, in short, a bizarre omission that would be due to the idea that Apple would somehow want to innovate or outperform the competition if it gives itself the bother to create a new application.

It’s an odd line considering how useful a calculator is and how little innovation really matters in the context of a business app like this.

If you’re wondering how to perform calculations on your iPad, we have a few options for you.

Don’t buy a paid app!

We can’t speak for everyone in the world, but the App Store is absolutely flooded with paid calculator apps, with the lack of an official iPad app being a contributing factor.

POCKET-LINT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Although some of them offer clean designs or cool features, there are so many ways to do math quickly and for free that we just don’t think it makes sense to buy any of these apps.

Plus, while a few may be reputable, many are scams in disguise, offering insanely priced subscriptions and in-app transactions that can trick you into spending money you could absolutely be better off elsewhere.

Ask Siri to do your calculations

Siri might not be something you use every day, or it might be a tool built into your life – either way, one thing it can be very useful for is a quick challenge like a math problem.

Just use the “Hey Siri” prompt (unless you’ve turned off the smart assistant altogether) to ask her for your calculations and you’ll get a very quick response.

Use Google in a browser

The giant that is Google may be Apple’s competitor, but you can oppose them by simply opening a browser on your iPhone and heading to Google.

Simply type in your math expression or problem, hit search, and you’ll get the answer presented to you. Even better, there will be a calculator interface below for further questions.
