How to Shop for Great Deals at Online Outlets
4. Check return policies
Both on J. Crew Factory and regular J. Crew websites, returns are $7.50. But not all discount sites share the same return policies as their retail siblings. For example, returns are free on Zappos.com but not on their marketplace 6pm.com. At AmericanFreight.com (this site merged with the former Sears Outlet), all sales are final. Also, while you can return merchandise from an online outlet to an outlet store, you generally cannot return it to the regular retail store.
5. Find discount codes
Sites like RetailMeNot.com and CouponCabin.com can help you get additional discounts. When I checked back in January, several deals for Saks Off 5th popped up, including $20 off any purchase when you sign up for the retailer’s newsletter and 25% off any Gap Factory purchase. Download browser extensions from these sites and the offers will appear automatically.
6. Fill up!
Sometimes you can find discontinued styles you like in online outlets. When you do, catch them! Shopping expert Trae Bodge says she fell in love with Banana Republic pants she found at a thrift store and when she searched online for another one, she found it in an online point of sale. Score!
