Calories burned on the elliptical calculator – Fitness Volt

Estimate the number of calories burned while exercising on the elliptical cardio machine.

The elliptical is a popular low impact cardio machine that is used to lose weight and improve cardiovascular fitness.

What is the elliptical calorie calculator and how does it work?

This calculator approximates the number of calories someone burns on the elliptical machine. It also estimates the calories burned per minute.

How is it ?

First of all, the calculator determines your metabolic rate or metabolism based on your weight.

What does it mean? Read on for a more detailed explanation.

If you take two people, one weighs 150 lbs and the other 210 lbs, the lesser person will burn fewer calories during the exact same workout compared to the heavier person.

Why is that?

A calorie is a unit of energy, and a heavier person needs more energy to move their body or to perform activities.

Think of it like how a larger vehicle typically uses more fuel than a smaller one. Weight affects fuel consumption (the amount of energy used).

But it also means that the heavier person expends more calories in a rested state (without exercise). This is also known as the metabolic rate or metabolism.

The calculator uses a formula to estimate the calories burned at rest, and then takes into account the duration and intensity of the workout to estimate the calories burned.

How to use the elliptical calorie burn calculator

The elliptical calorie calculator is not as easy to use as many of our other health tools. However, it is certainly not difficult to navigate if you keep it simple.

To ensure you have an easy experience, we’ve included detailed step-by-step instructions below.

Step 1: Choose your preferred unit of measure: imperial (lbs, hours and minutes) or metric (kilograms, hours and minutes).

Step 3: Enter the number of training hours (for example, 1, 2, 3, etc.).

Note: You can also use values less than one hour. For example, 0.5 would be thirty minutes and 0.25 would be fifteen minutes. Make sure to put 0 in the minutes box or just use the minutes box in this case.

Step 4: Enter the number of minutes for training.

Note: Since an hour is 60 minutes, the maximum number of minutes you can enter is 59. You must also enter either 0 or a value less than one hour (for example, 0.75 which equals 45 minutes).

If the workout lasts less than an hour, we recommend that you put 0 in the hours box and enter only the number of workout minutes.

Step 5: Select the intensity of the workout. Tip: Click directly on the text (for example, low intensity, moderate intensity, high intensity) and not on the empty gray circle.

Step 6: Press Calculate!

How many calories can I burn on the elliptical?

The number of calories you can burn during the activity depends on a few different factors such as your weight, the intensity and duration of the exercise, or the length of time you perform the activity. Therefore, it can vary greatly.

But that is the purpose of this calculator. You enter the necessary details and it will give you an accurate estimate of the calories burned on the elliptical.

However, we have provided a few examples of how our calculator will estimate calories burned.

According to the Elliptical Calorie Tool, a 125 lb person who exercises for 30 minutes at a low intensity training will burn 128 calories. That’s about 4.27 calories per minute.

The same person will burn 149 calories at moderate intensity or normal speed and 179 calories at high intensity or fast speed.

But let’s say a 185 lb person exercises on the elliptical for 30 minutes at low intensity. They will burn 189 calories. This is estimated to be 6.30 calories burned per minute.

They would burn around 220 calories at moderate intensity and 264 calories at high intensity.

As you can see, the number of calories you can burn on the elliptical trainer or doing any activity will depend on a few different factors.

There were also some research found using the calorie counter on many cardio machines overestimates calories burned by a significant amount.

When comparing the variances between various cardio equipment (treadmill, stationary bike, stairlift), the elliptical was by far the most disappointing. The numbers on the monitor were overestimated by 42 percent.

This was determined from a study conducted by researchers at the Human Performance Center at UC San Francisco.

Then, a 2018 study found that the elliptical overestimated by about 100 calories for 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise. (1)

Items such as machine parameters, elevation or incline, level of resistance, shape, machine design, quality and age / wear of the machine can affect the accuracy of the machine. the measure.

Our calculator is designed to provide a reasonable estimate of energy expenditure during elliptical activity.

Can the elliptical trainer help me lose a lot of weight?

The elliptical trainer is a great low impact cardio activity that can definitely aid in the weight loss process.

But how much weight you really and truly lose depends on your overall habits and your approach to your goals.

As long as you create a calorie deficit, and doing it in a healthy and proper way, you can lose weight. But many decide to go about it the wrong way. They will eat next to nothing and exercise for hours in an effort to lose weight.

This is a good way to be in poor health and cause damage that will hamper your body’s ability to progress anyway (an unhealthy body will not perform to the best of its ability). So you might as well do it in a sustainable way.

You want to figure out your maintenance calories, then reduce your calorie intake, exercise more, or do a combination of the two.

How many calories does the elliptical trainer burn compared to other forms of cardio?

As mentioned, there are many different variables that determine the number of calories burned between different forms of cardio activity. Weight, intensity / pace and duration are the most important factors.

Although, as an example, there is a 2010 study that compared the calorie expenditure between the elliptical and the treadmill, another very popular cardio machine. Researchers found similar calories burned when volunteers did both forms of exercise at the same level of perceived exertion (2).

However, the heart rate was higher during the elliptical exercise.

But it’s important to note that this is only a study and again the variables determine the calories burned.
