Last Friday, the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Command, awarded university scholarships to 50 students who are children, widows and dependents of our fallen heroes.
The event, held at the Rivers State Department of Justice Boardroom, was chaired by the Honorable Rivers State Commissioner of Education and attended by legionnaires, representatives of the Nigerian army and families of fallen heroes.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Ebeku commended the Nigerian Legion Leader for his passion in leading the Legionnaires’ cause and instructed the scholarship recipients to focus.
“You have an organization that is responsible and led by a responsible person. The dividend of what you get today is due to his hard fight and the demand he never failed to present before the Governor of the State”
“When you come to school with a scholarship, don’t mess with it; make sure you use it to succeed so you can tell the story and what has been done for you, and remember that you owe it to society to do the same”.
Prof. Ebeku pointed out that the state government has always supported the Legion, noting that the Governor recognizes the work of past heroes and has demonstrated this by supporting the Legion.
“The Governor of the State, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will always say that he will never forget their service to this nation and what you see here today is the major contribution of the state government and benevolence of His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike”.
“Today will mark the beginning of good things to come; don’t take this opportunity for granted. You have an organization that is responsible and it wipes the tears from the face of many widows and children who so far have no one to help them”.
On his part, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Chapter, Justice Chichi, commended the Rivers State Government for initiating the scholarship scheme.
He said: “The key to the flagship was laid in 2020. Our patron, His Excellency, gave executive approval for the establishment of this scholarship program, subsequently based on the recommendation of the scholarship board, the record was broken as 65 students were drawn. of the six geopolitical zones received a scholarship to study in Nigerian universities and this was funded by the government of Rivers State”.
Speaking further, Chichi revealed that the policy has been expanded to accommodate widows.
Other speakers also praised the state governor for his benevolence.
