7 Best Free Calculator Apps for iPhone
The calculator app is something we use almost daily. However, we can all agree that there’s usually little effort to develop a good calculator app by the device manufacturer – and Apple may be the most culprit. So here are some of the best calculator apps for iPhone that we can suggest.
Although the iPad doesn’t come with a calculator app at all, the one on the iPhone is poorly designed to say the least. For example, the application does not even display the sign of the operation you are performing. So, if you share the same opinion and are looking for a better calculator app, this article has got you covered. Let’s get to the apps without further ado.
1. Calculator & Math Solver – Basic iPhone Calculator with Dictation
Calculator & Math Solver is a simple and basic alternative to the built-in calculator app for iPhone. It offers you four tabs, a basic calculator, a scientific calculator, a fraction calculator and a currency converter. One feature we liked about this app is that you can use voice dictation to dictate your equations to the calculator.
It also shows you the history of your calculations, so you won’t lose track of it at any time. However, only Basic Calculator and Scientific Calculator are really free. The Others – Currency Converter and Fraction Calculator gives you three free calculations. For more, you have to buy the pro version.
The app also has several lock screen widgets and includes support for Apple Watch. That said, the ads are just a tad too much, and there are also complaints about a few scientific conversions not working properly on the calculator.
However, the pro version also disables ads and adds functionality to analyze math problems and add custom themes to your calculator. Although if you are just looking for a basic alternative to the default calculator app, the Calculator & Math Solver app will suffice.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $0.99 per month from
2. Quick Calculator Vault Plus – Basic Calculator with Good History View
Here is another alternative for a basic calculator app. What this app is good at is providing a detailed calculation history, compared to the default calculator app. Other than that, it has a simple interface that provides you with a basic calculator and a scientific calculator.
It has a basic set of options to help you convert quantities. It has a currency converter, date and time conversion, and a few converters to help you with geometric dimensions. However, all of these features are not free and require you to purchase the pro version. Moreover, the pro version also disables ads.
Overall, we love this app for what it does. However, if you are looking for a calculator app with more options to calculate and convert, you can check out the next apps on our list.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $19.99
3. ClevCalc – All-in-One iPhone Calculator
ClevCalc is one of our favorite calculator apps for iPhone. It comes with a neat and attractive user interface. The best part of this app is that it provides you a lot of calculators except basic calculator and scientific calculator.
ClevCalc has calculators like GPA Calculator, Loan Calculator, VAT Calculator, Ovulation Calculator etc. and it saves you from having to search for calculators on your browser when you want to calculate something specific. You can also change the themes of this calculator for free and also change the starter calculator.
There are ads on this app, but they are not intrusive. Moreover, they come in the form of a banner at the bottom of the application. However, the pro version removes ads and disables the “review this app” popup. But, if you want to try the pro version before making a purchase, ClevCalc lets you access it by watching an advertising video.
However, if you found ClevCalc’s list of functions inadequate (they aren’t), take a look at the upcoming iPhone Calculator.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $7.99
4. OneCalc – Free iPhone Calculator with Better Functions
OneCalc has a long list of calculators that beats the previous app on the list. It has financial calculators, construction calculators, unit converters, health calculators and much more. What is better is that it has minimal ads. Also, they don’t appear often and don’t interfere with your use.
OneCalc also has the ability to customize the calculator with a set of free themes. What we also like about this app is that the user interface resembles the default calculator app. Therefore, if you don’t want to stray from familiarity, this app is for you. You can also set some favorite calculators in the “fav” section of the app.
But, there are some issues with the calculator’s memory functions, where one function is automatically erased when you add another. There are many intrusive ads, but you can remove them by purchasing the pro version.
However, all other features are free and we are big fans of this app. It’s worth it even if you use the free version.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $3.99
5. Photomath – Best for algebra and other math problems
Photomath is one of our favorite apps on this list. It allows you to easily digitize equations through your camera and get identical results. Moreover, it incorporates a very nice user interface and undoubtedly makes it one of the best calculator apps for iPhone.
Apart from scanning your equation to solve it, you can also upload an image from your gallery. It also lets you type in a math problem to find the solution to it if you don’t prefer to scan the written equation.
However, if you have any problem in understanding the solution of the equation, you get a detailed explanation and an animated tutorial for the same. However, this feature is only available in the pro version. The pro version also provides you with solutions for all major math textbooks.
But, we slightly wish that the scan tool to solve worked a bit faster. It takes time to scan and recognize what you’ve written, so we often ended up typing the equation directly. It is therefore more of a novelty than a feature to increase your productivity.
However, the free version gives you all the other important features and does not contain any intrusive advertisements. Therefore, at this point, we can conclude that this is a must-have app for anyone studying math and wanting to use a calculator, especially for algebra.
Price: Free; Plus Version: $9.99
6. X84 Graphing Calculator – Best Scientific Calculator App for iPhone with Graphing
If you’re a STEM student, we’re sure most of you have a Casio or TI calculator with you. But what about the day you forgot to wear it to class? There are a bunch of scientific calculator apps that have you covered. Maybe not with all the functionality of your physical calculator, but at least for commonly used scientific functions. The X84 graphing calculator is one of them.
Apart from all the basic functions, you also have a graphical tool. You can easily plot graphs and share them as well. As mentioned earlier, the app’s layout and buttons largely resemble the physical scientific calculator. And for this reason, if you have never used one before, you may not be comfortable using this application.
You can type up to 200 characters to calculate, and we’re sure that will suffice for most operations. You also get a detailed history of calculations and functions. There are also options for solving integrals, using statistical and regression functions, and logarithmic functions.
However, there are quite a few intrusive ads in this app. If you want to get rid of it, you will have to buy the pro version of the app.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $4.99
7. Panecal Scientific Calculator – Easier Scientific Calculator for iPhone
The previous app on this list was designed for use with a TI 84. However, if you’d like to see a more generic interface on a scientific calculator and didn’t find the Graphing Calculator X84 app appealing, we’ll tell you. suggest taking a look at Panecal Scientific Calculator.
Panecal will meet the needs of most users looking to use a calculator with scientific functions on iPhone. It seems to cover most mathematical operations and functions present in a physical calculator. You can also change most configurations and calculation modes in the calculator.
However, there are some issues regarding the calculation of inverse operations on the calculator, and the performance also seemed a bit slow. These are the two disadvantages that we could find.
You also get a manual to understand and use the app. This is something we appreciate, especially for new users of a scientific calculator. However, this application lacks graphics functionality. The free version covers all important features, but purchasing the pro version will also eliminate ads.
Price: Free; Pro Version: $2.99
