10 Ways to Fix Calculator App Not Working on Windows

Instead of looking for an actual calculator somewhere in your room, you can use the app without leaving your computer. If you don’t have the app, you can just install it from the Microsoft store.

However, it’s annoying when the app crashes or worse, you can’t open it. Sometimes it’s just a glitch, and restarting the app is what it takes to fix the problem.

Why is the Calculator app not working?

Several reasons can prevent the application from working. Some of the main ones are mentioned below.

    There are different ways to fix the calculator app. You can use the built-in tools and window troubleshooters. Likewise, you may need to change some settings or even enter some commands.

    Run the App Troubleshooter

    Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that diagnoses and offers possible fixes for these issues. Here’s how you can use it.

    1. Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
    2. Move towards Update and security > Troubleshoot.
    3. In the right pane, click Additional convenience stores.
    4. Scroll down, find Windows Store apps and click Run the troubleshooter.
    5. Wait for the troubleshooter to finish finding the issues.
    6. Follow the on-screen instructions and apply the recommended fixes.
    7. Check if the app is working now.

    Re-register the application

    If the calculator app won’t open or crashes after opening, re-registering it may fix the issues. To do this for the calculator app,

    1. Press Windows key + R and type the command powershell.
    2. Then press the CTRL + Gap + Walk in key to open powershell as administrator.

    Update app

    Using an outdated application can be a major reason for the problem. You can update the app from the Microsoft Store as follows.

    1. First, open the Microsoft Store application. You can search for it in the search bar.
    2. In the lower left corner, click Library.
    3. Now click on the Update button next to Calculator.

    You can set up automatic app updates if you don’t want to install app updates manually. To do this, click on your profile icon in the upper right corner, then the App settings option. Then activate the button next to App updates.

    Repair using the Settings app

    You can use the repair option in the Settings app to repair Microsoft Store and then fix app issues as well. Here’s how you can do it.

    1. Open the Settings application.
    2. Move towards apps > Apps and features.
    3. Click on the Microsoft Store app in the list, then click Advanced options.

    End Runtimebroker.exe background process

    RunTimeBroker.exe is a background process that decides whether a Windows Store app can access your system. Sometimes this can prevent the calculator from getting the required permissions. So you have to end the RunTimeBroker.exe treat. Here’s how you can do it.

    1. First, open Task Manager. You can use the shortcut key CTRL + Gap + Esc.
    2. Under the Processes tab, find Fulfillment Broker.

    Run SFC and DISM scans

    Reset Calculator

    Resetting will delete all stored data for the calculator app and restore it to its original state. To reset the Calculator app,

    1. Open the Settings application.
    2. Then navigate to apps > Apps and features.
    3. In the right pane, find the calculator app and click to expand it.
    4. Then click on Advanced options under his name.
